Designing the way
companies communicate.
Grammarly Enterprise design services Grammarly’s largest and most complex customers.
As a product designer for Grammarly Enterprise, I worked across the evolution of four teams, developing strategy for and designing some of the most influential features to launch for enterprise customers since Grammarly’s inception.
That work included creating custom roles that directly mirror those of a company’s internal hierarchy, an improved billing system for the largest accounts Grammarly opporates, and security features that highlight the importance of privacy in this era of AI.
Custom Roles
For organizations that are large, complex, and have multiple departments and hierarchies, admins want control over the overall administrative experience, but they also need to assign “administrative” permissions to other team members to help manage their accounts.
We developed Custom roles to highlight Grammarly’s Enterprise-Centric Approach — displaying our commitment to meeting the unique needs of our enterprise customers.
Our
Solution
Add more granularity to the existing RBAC model so that we can increase our capabilities to scale and work with our largest enterprise customers by:
Allowing for more fine-grained control over who can access, view, and edit what within the Grammarly Business institution account
Reduce the risk of unauthorized changes applied on the Grammarly Business administrative level since users will only have permission to change the Grammarly settings that their assigned and defined by their admins role permits them to.
Billing Groups
Large enterprises were struggling to manage thier Grammarly licenses across different departments and cost centers within a single account.
Budgets for tools like Grammarly are often decentralized, with each department handling its own purchases and invoicing.
The lack of support for these functions complicated enterprise efforts for expansion within a consolidated account due to a cumbersome and manual chargeback and license management process.
Our
Solution
A feature that enables enterprises to assign a cost center attribute to each user, updating it automatically through SSO or SCIM integration with their identity provider and introduce license management through the concept of billing groups, which will allow enterprise admins to associate users with specific internal budgets. With users assignable to only one billing group, it becomes straightforward for admins to distribute purchased seats and monitor license usage across different cost centers, streamlining the renewals, expansions, and chargebacks within enterprise accounts.
Our aim is to provide a scalable solution that supports enterprise growth, enables future billing automation, aligns with common Enterprise SaaS practices, and offers a unique value proposition for our Enterprise SKU.
